Welcome to ‘Mary Farfisa’s Outer Space Radio Theater,’ a series of half-hour radio plays for kids, created and written by cartoonist Jim Cheff. The show follows the adventures of Mary Farfisa, an eight-year-old space girl who travels the Universe on her space horse, Briscoe — searching for songs and sounds and music and noise to catch in her audio lasso and share with the Universe!
“I’m very enthused about the series, and about making fun, positive and smart stories and programming for kids,” said Cheff. “Mary Farfisa’s Outer Space Radio Theater depicts Outer Space as a fun, creative place, full of artists, poets, musicians and dreamers. There are no space battles and very bad villains. Characters might behave badly, but there is no violence, and no problems that can’t be solved through peaceful measures. And Outer Space is a place where the imagination has room to stretch out, and grow as big as it needs to be.”
“I was determined not to take the aggressive and hyper-active approach you find in a lot of children’s programming. I wanted to make a gentle, thoughtful show that was fun, but not frantic. My models for the tone of Mary Farfisa were shows I remembered from my own youth, like The Friendly Giant, Davey and Goliath, and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.”
Cara Alboucq stars as Mary Farfisa. The series also features the voice talents of Katie King, James Hasapis, Nancy Andrews, Leslie Baker, Miranda Marie, April Stalder, Frank Furtado, Isaac Andrews and many more. Video produced by Firewatch Media, directed by Nicholas Geib. Mary Farfisa is ©2018 by Jim Cheff.
